Iris - 2 weeks old and going strong

At the doctor's office, all bundled up in a sweater knit by Auntie Alison. Iris is up to 7 lbs 2 ounces - surpassing her birth weight! She also grew in height almost one inch.

Daddy reads to Iris from Harpers

Iris gets an early schooling on the perils of elitism.

Iris Goes to Washington

Okay, not really, but she enjoyed "watching" (also known as "sleeping through") the inauguration on the internet.

Iris Lost in Comfort

More photos of Iris, now one week old and going strong

All is well here on Mansfield Street as Iris enters week two of her debut in the world. She seems healthy and happy, especially so since we got her a pacifier and could stop using our pinky knuckles for her to suck on... Everyone keeps asking, "Are you sleeping well?" The answer is no, of course, but all in all she is very well behaved and a good sleeper and we hope she'll be even more lovely in the weeks to come.

Iris marks her one week birthday with her first bath

Iris conks out after the trauma of her first bath.

Matt holding Iris after her bath. She pretty much hated it, but seemed to forget immediately. We need to work on our technique.
Oh boy, was she not happy with us.

Squirmy Iris

Our first experiment with posting a video.

Monday through Wednesday with Iris - the Joneses arrive

Grandma Judith with an alert Iris.

Experimenting with tummy time: Iris promptly falls asleep.

Matt and Iris at her first doctor's visit, which she also slept through. She was down 10 ounces, now back up five - moving in the right direction. Project Fatten Up underway.

Iris in her ridiculously large winter bear outfit. It is cold outside . . .

Grandpa Bill with a swaddled Iris. She rapidly escapes most of our swaddles - how did those nurses at the hopsital do it??

It Happened!

Dear everyone - in a surprise move, our Little Boop decided two weeks early that she wanted to see more of the world. At 11:30pm on Wednesday night, Gwyneth went into labor. Boop was born 26 hours later at 1:52am Friday morning. Of course, we can't call her Boop anymore . . . instead we're making it official: Iris Jones Eckelman is a happy and healthy little baby girl. 6 lbs 12.5 ounces and 21 inches long. (No, NOT the 16 lbs we mistakenly wrote in our email - oops!)

Gwyneth in labor - she's smiling because she has no idea how long she has to go...

A truly amazing way to wake up in the morning...
