Fifth Month Update

Iris is doing great. At four and a half months, she weighs in at 15 lbs 11 ounces - 75th percentile. She continues to smile a lot and has started actually laughing. She grabs things constantly and is getting stronger and squirmier.

Iris eyes the bumble bee. She does not hate tummy time anymore.

Iris in her basinette: too small!

Iris in her crib: plenty of room! She just switched over this week.

Weekend in Newport

Iris had a nice time with her extended family in Newport RI over Memorial Day. She got to hang out with two of her proto-cousins (and Aunts Alison and Tracey, of course). She also had a great time hanging out with Grandfather Jones last week while Matt was on a business trip. Some selected photos below.

Footses

Iris discovered her foot for the first time yesterday morning! She repeated it this morning, so we know it's not a fluke.

Mini Jumps

Iris has another go in the Jump-Up. She likes it slightly more this time. She still doesn't really get it . . . but we're making progress.

Dolphin Child

Iris has discovered some new sounds that she can make . . . we're happy she's progressing vocally, but our enthusiasm is curbed by the volume and pitch of her new capabilities. We have taken to calling her the dolphin child when she is particularly vocal. You will see why:

4 Months

Iris turned four months today. We celebrated by taking her to the driving range - the second sport that she has encountered (she's been to the tennis court as well). She weighed in at 15 lbs 6 ounces. She's growing fast and more interactive by the day - she's started grabbing things with more vigour and slightly improved accuracy.

Last weekend we had a great time spending time with family in Boston and celebrating with Alison and Matt at Tilde's baby shower. Some lovely photos from the shower are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jin_aili/sets/72157617610587439/ Iris made a lot of new friends.

A few pictures from the past week - I'll try to get some more video up soon.

Carousel

Iris had a great time on the carousel the other night at Lighthouse Point Park at the mouth of New Haven harbor. You can see the end-of-the-year Yale party going on in the background. We were originally on the horses but the carousel operator asked us to move to a sleigh, which was a good move considering our baby antics!

More Adventures in Iris-Land

Lots of fun times this week. Grandpa Bill came to visit, Iris hung out with her birth-buddy Hayden and went on her first carousel ride. Pictures below.

Iris with Grandpa Bill.

Iris has started grabbing things with greater frequency, although with little accuracy. Here, she demonstrates her skills by grabbing her pants. Why? Who knows . . . .

Diane, Hayden, Iris, and Matt. Hayden and Iris are birth buddies - born on the same day in the same hospital to our good friends Josh and Diane. What a pair!

We tried Iris in the Johnny-Jump-Up the other night. Although she didn't hate it, we decided that she is too small. This will be obvious from the photo. We'll try again in a few weeks.
Grandpa Bill, Matt and Iris at lighthouse point. We retreated inside not long after this as it was quite windy.

she hated it.
